WHY ARE WE CALLED SUPER 8?
1980, a 10 year old Matthew Bearne
was given a well used Super 8 Cine camera
by his Grandad. Every time they got together, they'd film skits - Chaplin walks, and mock stumbles -
The footage was often out of focus, but that wasn’t the point.
The point was the messing about, belly laughs and the pure joy of making something together.
Fast forward to 2012, when Matthew founded his acting school, he wanted to create a space that went back to that feeling: the joy of playing pretend, before anyone starts worrying
about getting it right...
That's why we're called Super 8.
Matthew trained at the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and enjoyed a successful career as an actor before stepping behind the camera.
Today, he continues to work in the entertainment industry as a director for Adrenaline, contributing to productions for Netflix, Disney, and Sky. Alongside his professional work, he mentors young actors at his Super 8 school in Hampshire, helping them develop their craft and confidence.
