SUPER 8 COMPANY
Adult Acting Classes
Terms & Conditions
Last updated: June 2026
By enrolling in any Super 8 Company programme, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms & Conditions. This is a legally binding agreement between you (the “Member”) and Matthew Bearne (the “Proprietor”).
Super 8 Company is the adult strand of Super 8 Acting Academy, a trading style of Matthew Bearne, sole trader. Matthew Bearne also operates Actor Showreels by Matthew Bearne. Any contract formed is a contract with Matthew Bearne as an individual, who is solely responsible for all obligations and liabilities arising from these trading names.
Super 8 Company adult classes are open to participants aged 18 and over. These Terms & Conditions govern adult enrolment only and are separate from the Super 8 Acting Academy Terms & Conditions applicable to the 11–18 programme.
1. The Programme
Super 8 Company offers craft-focused adult actor training based on a drama school methodology, including:
-
Scene study and text analysis across period and genre styles
-
Ensemble and company-based working
-
Termly showcase performances for invited audiences
-
Occasional workshops and guest sessions
Classes take place on Thursday evenings, 7.30–9.00pm, at PPA Academy, Guildford. The academic year is divided into three terms of ten sessions each (30 sessions per year). Term dates will be confirmed in writing at the start of each academic year.
2. Fees & Payment
The membership fee is £62 per calendar month, payable by standing order or bank transfer on or before the 1st of each month.
Fees are spread equally across 12 calendar months regardless of term dates. This means monthly payments remain consistent throughout the year, including during holiday periods between terms.
Payment is due whether or not sessions are attended. No refunds or credits are given for missed sessions.
If a payment is not received by the 7th of the month, the Proprietor reserves the right to suspend membership until payment is made.
Fees are reviewed annually. Members will be given a minimum of one full term’s notice of any fee increase.
3. Cancellation & Notice
To cancel your membership, you must give one full term’s written notice by email to matthewbearne@hotmail.com. Notice must be received before the first session of the term in which you wish your membership to end.
Notice given mid-term will take effect at the end of the following term. Monthly payments continue until the final month of the notice period.
The Proprietor reserves the right to terminate membership with immediate effect in cases of conduct that breaches Section 5 of these Terms, or in circumstances where continued membership is not in the best interests of the group.
4. Cancelled or Rescheduled Sessions
In the event of a session being cancelled by the Proprietor due to illness, venue unavailability, or other unforeseen circumstances, reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule the session within the same term.
Where a session cannot be rescheduled, a credit will be applied to the following month’s payment. No cash refunds will be issued.
5. Behaviour & Professional Conduct
Super 8 Company operates as a professional ensemble environment. All members are expected to:
-
Treat all fellow members, the Proprietor, and venue staff with respect
-
Arrive punctually and prepared
-
Engage constructively with direction and feedback
-
Maintain confidentiality regarding the personal work shared by other members in sessions
-
Refrain from recording sessions (audio or video) without explicit written consent
Zero tolerance applies to bullying, discrimination, harassment, or aggressive behaviour toward any person. Membership may be terminated immediately and without refund in such cases.
6. Showcases & Performances
A termly showcase of scene and extract work is a core part of the Super 8 Company programme. Members are expected to participate in showcase preparation and performance as part of their membership commitment.
Showcases are held at PPA Academy and are open to invited guests (family and friends). A small ticket price may be charged to cover venue hire costs. Any surplus will be held as a company fund.
Participation in a showcase does not guarantee a specific role, scene assignment, or amount of stage time. Creative decisions rest with the Proprietor.
7. Intellectual Property
Any original workshop materials, scene adaptations, or exercises created by the Proprietor remain the intellectual property of Matthew Bearne. Members may not reproduce, distribute, or use these materials for commercial purposes without written permission.
8. Media & Photography
Photographs and video footage may be taken during sessions and showcases for promotional use across Super 8 Acting Academy and Super 8 Company’s marketing channels, including social media and the website.
By enrolling, you consent to this use unless you notify the Proprietor in writing that you wish to opt out. Opting out will not affect your membership.
Personal data is held and processed in accordance with UK GDPR. It will not be shared with third parties except where required by law.
9. Health & Medical
Members are responsible for disclosing any medical conditions, injuries, or accessibility requirements that may affect their participation. This information will be held confidentially.
The Proprietor reserves the right to exclude a member from physical activity if it appears that participation poses a risk to their health or the safety of others.
10. Liability
Super 8 Company accepts no liability for loss or damage to personal belongings at the venue.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for any matter where it would be unlawful to exclude liability under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable legislation.
11. Changes to These Terms
The Proprietor reserves the right to update these Terms & Conditions. Members will be notified of any material changes by email, with a minimum of 30 days’ notice before changes take effect.
12. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
